Emergency nursing, in line with the nursing profession at large, has seen dramatic changes in the past decade, with an increasing emphasis placed on the development of nurse-delivered and nurse-led care in the Commission on Nursing report (Government of Ireland, 2003) and in the Hanly report (Department of Health and Children, 2003). These changes have seen a demand for expansion and development of traditional nursing roles. This module seeks to address these changes by equipping emergency nurses with the skills and expertise to develop their clinical practice in response to changing service needs.
This module will provide participants with opportunities to:
- Develop advanced knowledge and skills in assessing and treating emergency patients.
- Develop clinical decision making skills.
- Practice the skills required to suture simple wounds.
- Practice the skills required in the application of plaster of paris.
- Examine contemporary practice issues.
