This module offers you the opportunity to develop further your knowledge and skills in continence promotion and care, and so improve your practice in this specialised area of care. Module content focuses on understanding the physiological, psychological and environmental factors that affect the ability to maintain continence. The inability to control bowel or bladder function affects all ages and all care groups, and as a result it is one of the most common conditions encountered by nurses/midwives in clinical practice. The nurse’s/midwives’ role linked with primary prevention, early diagnosis and continence promotion is explored with a view to improving service delivery and patient/client outcomes.
There are four units in this module:
Unit 1: Principles of Continence Promotion
Unit 2: Principles of Assessment
Unit 3: Prevention, Management and Treatment of Incontinence
