This module explores attitudes to cancer, and their impact. Patients’ existential plight and the role of psycho-oncology are also explored. Issues surrounding nurse-patient communication and the support that cancer patients need are also addressed. Finally, issues of survivorship and quality of life in cancer are explored.
There are four units in the module:
Unit 1: Exploring public and professional attitudes to cancer.
Unit 2: Exploring the psychosocial and communication issues surrounding cancer
Unit 3: Exploring the provision of support for cancer patients
Unit 4: Exploring the issue of survivorship and quality of life
The team is led by Dr Maura Dowling, programme director for the Postgraduate diploma in Nursing (Oncology).
