This module has safety as the overall theme. It will address physical and psychological aspects of patient care in relation to the prevention of injury. The application of the knowledge will be related to the elderly, children and patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery, eye surgery and day surgery.
On completion of the module the student will be able to:
- Critically analyse the impact of impending surgery on children and their family and the nursing assessment, interventions and evaluation of nursing care;
- Critically analyse the nursing assessment, intervention and evaluation of nursing care of the older person in the perioperative period;
- Critically articulate the prevention of injury related to positioning of the patient.
- Critically discuss the care of patients requiring assistance with thermoregulation;
- Critically assess particular hazards in the provision of safe and effective perioperative nursing care.
- Critically discuss the legal and procedural requirements related to Perioperative care
