This module has prevention of surgical complications as the overall theme. It will address physical and psychological aspects of patient care in relation to the prevention of infection, wound healing and care of equipment. The application of the knowledge will be related to Gastrointestinal, orthopaedic, & urological surgery, and plastic surgery.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the student will be able to:
- Critically analyse the all aspects of infection controls employed in the perioperative environment
- Critically analyse the wound healing processes and factors that impede healing
- Critically articulate the care of instruments and equipment used in the perioperative area
- Critically discuss the management of the sterile field
