This module aims to provide nurses working in a variety of clinical settings with up-to-date, relevant knowledge to support their care of the person presenting with respiratory problems. Respiratory illness is a very common presenting complaint in the primary care setting. Primary care practitioners have an important role in the diagnosis, monitoring, treatment options, management and referral of a wide range of respiratory disorders. This module aims to provide primary care practitioners with the knowledge and skills to effectively assess and manage respiratory conditions in the community setting, as well as an understanding of when referral to secondary care is appropriate. In particular the module will address cough, wheeze and obstructive disorders, respiratory infections, occupational lung disease, and the early signs of lung cancer. This module consists of five online lessons supported by workshops and a clinic visit. Each lesson will run for two weeks. The workshops will address skills such as patient assessment plans, inhalers and inhaler techniques. |
