Specialist Module 3: Specialist Patient Groups

This module is wide ranging. Patients attending the emergency department often have specific presenting characteristics and specialist needs in addition to their  medical and surgical conditions that need consideration as part of their overall management. In this module the management consideration needed in relation to pregnant women, children and patients with mental health issues will be addressed.  In addition some conditions that need specialist emergency management will also be reviewed.

There are four units in this module:
Unit 1: Gynaecologic & paediatric emergencies
Unit 2: Psychiatric emergencies
Unit 3: ENT emergencies
Unit 4: Pain, burns, shock in A&E

Module Leader: Yvonne Conway

Requirement for Undertaking the Module:
Student need to be working in the emergency department.
