The Digital Enterprise Research Institute is an internationally recognised institute in semantic web research, education and technology transfer. DERI brings together academic and industrial partners to boost innovation in science and technology, which directly contributes to the Irish government's plan of transforming Ireland into a competitive knowledge economy.


Clique is an SFI-funded Strategic Research Cluster based at DERI and UCD that focuses on the development of computational techniques for the analysis and visualisation of large graphs and networks, specifically social networks and biological networks.

Co-operating Objects Network of Excellence (CONET)

The main goal of CONET is to build a strong community in the area of Co-operating Objects, capable of conducting the needed research to achieve the vision of Mark Weiser.

ExamReady Technologies

This project is investigating the applicability of applying semantic tools to the presentation of mathematical information.

Fast and Advanced Storyboard Tools (FAST)
The main objective of the project is to create a new visual programming environment that will facilitate the development of complex front-end gadgets, involving execution of relatively complex business processes that rely on back-end semantic Web services.


The objective of the Firefly project is to develop an authoring and a playback environment for the creation and delivery of time-based, multi-media, instructional materials which can be shared and embedded.


iMP will create architecture, workflow and applications for intelligent metadata-driven processing and distribution of digital movies and entertainment.


INDRA is a commercialisation effort within DERI to drive the technology transfer of semantic technology into the commercial domain.

Líon Project

The mission of Lion is to combine and harness the power of Web Services and the Semantic Web to produce a scalable semantics-based Web Service environment where business partners can seamlessly share services across dynamic business communities.

M2Mnegotiation (M2MN)

The project aims to develop software for profit maximisation out of business negotiation processes based on an advanced automated negotiation solution.


The goal of the OKKAM project is to enable the Web of Entities, a global digital space for publishing and managing information about entities, where every entity is uniquely identified. 


The research in the PureC project will concentrate on the recommendation techniques, based on community, semantic annotations; we will also research on referencing fine-grained elements, such as web clips or fragments of multimedia streams, on the Web.


RIDE is a roadmap project for interoperability of eHealth systems leading to recommendations for actions and to preparatory actions at the European level.


The project will research on domain driven design for Web Applications on Java and will provide an open source Java framework for developing web applications.

Nortel are currently investigating the application of Semantic Web technologies to the creation of generic adaptors aimed at third-party application integration with Nortel's market-leading Contact Center product suite.


SemanticGov aims at building the infrastructure (software, models, services, etc) necessary for enabling the offering of semantic web services by public administration.


SIOC (Semantically Interlinked Online Communities) is an attempt to link online community sites and to use Semantic Web technologies to describe the information community sites have about their structure and contents and to find related information and new connections between posts.


TagBuilder is a collaborative project with our industrial partner aimed at researching and developing technologies that will facilitate the creation of a highly-scalable, SaaS B2B marketplace - initially for electronic components.

Welcoming Argument Visualisation to Europe (WAVE)

Project WAVE aims to improve the inclusiveness and transparency of EU decision making at the national and European level by using highly integrated, state-of-the-art Argument Visualisation techniques to make the impact of complex EU environmental legislation on climate change more accessible and easy to understand for citizens, special interest groups and decision makers alike.


The mission of this project is to create a deployed collaborative environment, which improves the state of the art in online collaboration and personal data management and augments the intellect of people by providing and organising information created by single or group efforts.
