Biography:

Dr Kieran Walsh is Deputy Director with the Irish Centre for Social Gerontology at NUI Galway. Kieran completed his PhD in 2004 on ‘The Effects of Nursing Home Institutionalisation on the Cognitive, Sensory and Sensorimotor Abilities of Low Dependency Older Adults’ at the University of Limerick. In 2005, Kieran took a position as Senior Researcher in the Health Promotion Research Centre in NUI Galway, where he worked on the cross-national study on Health Behavior in School Aged Children project. Since joining the ICSG in 2006, Kieran has worked primarily in the areas of environmental gerontology and infrastructures of care. This has included studies on older adult community and voluntary activity, the impact of assistive technology on the lives of older people and the interaction between elements of place (particularly in rural areas), technology and community.
