Biography:

Dr Wenxin Wang obtained his BSc in Polymer Science and Engineering at Si Chuan University, followed by his MSc and PhD at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. After his PhD, Dr Wang worked as Technology Officer at Shanghai Huayi Group for a year. In 2000, Dr. Wang was awarded Services Fédéraux des Affaires Scientifiques Fellowship and worked at the Centre for Education and Research on Macromolecules at the University of Liege, Belgium for one year. From 2001 to 2008, Dr. Wang was a senior research fellow at the University of Nottingham, UK. In 2008, Dr. Wang joined NUI Galway in Ireland. Dr Wang is the Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) Stokes Lecturer on Functional Biomaterials in the Department of Mechanical and Biomedical Engeering and Network of Excellence for Fuctional Biomaterials. He is also the holder of SFI Principle Investigator since 2010. Dr Wang has been leading his research group working on the research areas, including Controlled/living polymerisations (ATRP, NMP, RAFT, ROP, anionic polymerisation); thermo-, pH- and ion-responsive smart polymers, biodegradable materials; functional dendritic polymers as multifunctional carriers for targeted therapeutic drugs (proteins and peptides) and DNA/gene delivery; new biologic responsive dressing/adhesive for wound healing. In 2010, Dr Wang was awarded the highly prestigious “The Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) prize in Regenerative Medicine”.

·         Functional dendritic polymers as multifunctional carriers for targeted therapeutic drugs (proteins and peptides) and DNA/gene delivery

·         Gene therapy and the development of new DNA vectors

·         New biologic responsive dressing/adhesive for wound healing

 ·        Clinical targets: Skin wound healing, Intervertebral disc repair, Cardiovascular disease
