Biography:
| From Cahir, Co. Tipperary, a town dominated by a castle, abbey, the River Suir and the Galty Mountains, it was impossible to grow uo without an interest in all things geographical and to know and understand the environment of the town and its hinterland from a physical and human perspective. One of the best ways to know your own place is to explore other places and come back to it with a fresh perspective and gain new insights. As a result I have studied and worked in Armagh, Cork, Coventry, Kilkenny, Maynooth, Oxford and Scotland. I have been fortunate to have travelled to many European countries aswell as China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Dubai, Egypt, Cuba, Iceland, Turkey, Canada and the USA. |

Teaching Interests
| My main teaching interests are in the overlapping areas of climate change and natural disasters. I am also interested in teaching the history and philosophy of physical geography particularly from the classical period up to the start of the 1900's. I am also interested in teaching on the physical geography of Ireland. As a result I teach an introductory set of lectures at 1BA level on weather and climate. At 2BA level I teach a full course on natural hazards. At 2BA level I also teach on the Theory and Practice of Geography module. At 3BA level I teach a course on climate change. I have extensive interest in teaching field and laboratoy craft skills for geographers as well as supervising dissertations at undergraduate level. |
