Dr Claire MacGilchrist is a Podiatry Lecturer at NUI Galway. Claire previously lectured in Podiatry at Glasgow Caledonian University and was employed as a Senior II Podiatrist and clinical tutor at The Southern General Hospital, Glasgow.  During this time, Claire was working towards her PhD entitled “Lower-limb risk factors for falls in older adults with Diabetes” and graduated with this award in November 2012. Claire has an active interest in the diabetic foot, vascular medicine and falls and has presented her work at a number of national and international conferences. Clinically, Claire is currently involved in vascular and ‘complex foot clinics’ at Merlin Park Hospital Podiatry Clinic.

Teaching Interests

I currently am Module leader for Clinical Studies 2, Research Methods 1 and Contemporary Practice.  I have a keen interest in the diabetic foot, vascular complications affecting the lower limb and the role of Podiatry in falls prevention among older adults.  

Clinically, I regularly work in vascular, diabetes and general assessment clinics.  I am actively involved in research and currently supervise 4 undergraduate research projects.
