Biography:

Dr Lucy-Ann Buckley has been a staff member at NUI Galway since 1999. Her original BCL from University College Cork was followed by a research LLM in the law of sexual harassment; she was subsequently awarded a second master’s degree of BCL by the University of Oxford and a doctorate by Trinity College, Dublin. Her doctoral thesis focused on financial provision on marital breakdown in Ireland. Dr Buckley is also a qualified solicitor and holds a Diploma in Irish from NUI Galway. Prior to taking up her current position in the School of Law, she lectured in law at the University of Warwick and the University of Limerick.

Dr Buckley specialises in gender equality issues, particularly with reference to matrimonial property, but including labour law, discrimination law and family law generally. She is a member of Gender ARC (Advanced Research Consortium on Gender, Culture and the Knowledge Society). Dr Buckley's current research focuses on financial provision on marital breakdown, with particular emphasis on the recognition of caring work and contributions to family life, and principles of autonomy. She has a particular interest in socio-legal and empirical work.
