Biography:
|
Róisín Dwyer is a Lecturer in Translational Science in the Discipline of Surgery at NUI Galway. Following graduation from UCD with a degree in Science, Róisín went on to complete an MSc in Biological Sciences at DCU, and then was awarded her PhD in Medicine and Therapeutics from UCD. Róisín's research background in breast cancer led to a 3 year postdoctoral research position at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. Upon her return to Ireland, she was awarded a National University of Ireland (NUI) Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Sciences, and joined the research team of Professor Michael Kerin in the National Breast Cancer Research Institute (NBCRI) at NUI Galway. She received Health Research Board funding in 2007, and a subsequent Project Grant awarded by the Irish Cancer Society in 2008. Róisín's current research, in collaboration with both national and international research groups, focuses on novel approaches to breast cancer therapy. Her work investigates the potential of adult stem cells as vehicles for targeted delivery of therapeutic agents to breast tumours, with a specific interest in imaging modalities to track their migration in vivo. Other areas of interest include cellular interactions in breast tumours, and circulating biomarkers of disease. |
