Biography:

Kelly is a lecturer in higher education in the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching. She coordinates the PG Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, and the PG Diploma/MA in Academic Practice. She is currently also the Vice Dean for Graduate Studies in the College of Arts, Social Sciences and Celtic Studies.

Kelly completed her doctorate at the Institute of Education, University of London in 1999 and was employed as a researcher and lecturer there until 2006. At the IoE she taught on the MBA in Higher Education Management and on the programmes within the Doctoral School. She moved to NUI Galway in January 2007. 

Her main areas of research interest are in the higher education curriculum, gendered aspects of higher education, the internationalisation of higher education and higher education policy. She is on the editorial boards of the Journal of Education Policy, Arts and Humanities in Higher Education, Teaching in Higher Education, Higher Education Research and Development and Gender and Education. She is on the Governing Council of the Society for Research into Higher Education (www.srhe.ac.uk), and convenes (with Lesley Gourlay) the SRHE's Digital University Network. She is also co-convener (with Nata Duvvury) of the Public Policy cluster within Gender ARC (www.genderarc.org).
 

Research Interests

Kelly has worked on a number of research projects in the field of higher education studies, funded by organisations such as the Economic and Social Research Council, the Association of University Teachers, the Department for Education and Skills, the European Commission, the Higher Education Academy and the Higher Education Funding Council for England. Her main areas of research interest are in the internationalisation and globalisation of universities, gendered aspects of academic careers, links between teaching and research, and changes in the contemporary higher education curriculum.
