Biography

Amanda Walsh, BSc is a lecturer in Podiatric Medicine at the National University of Ireland (NUI) Galway. Ms. Walsh Co-ordinates the first year of the undergraduate BSc programme and leads and actively lectures on several modules across the 4 years of the course. Her specialities are Paediatrics and Musculoskeletal Medicine, whereby she leads specialist paediatric clinics at Merlin Park Hospital Podiatry Clinic, Galway. She has also established a Homeless Podiatry service in Galway, providing Podiatry care for the homeless within the city. She received her BSc Podiatry degree from the University of Huddersfield, UK in 2004 and then served six years in the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK as a Senior Podiatrist, Biomechanics Lead Specialist Podiatrist and Team Leader. She then took up post as Podiatry Lecturer at NUIG in 2010 and is currently undertaking her PhD in the remit of paediatrics, specifically Pes Planus in Down Syndrome.

Undertaking PhD in Podiatric Medicine.

Teaching Interests

My teaching responsibilities are essentially focused on undergraduate education within the Podiatry programme.  My teaching consists of a combination of lectures, tutorials, workshops, practical and clinical supervision and varies depending on the module aims and content. Evidence based practice underpins the Podiatry profession and my teaching involves critical thinking, problem based learning, discussions and the application of theoretical knowledge into a practical/professional environment.
