Biography:
|
Amaya Vega is a postdoctoral researcher within the Discipline of Economics at NUI Galway. She holds a Ph.D. from University College Dublin, Ireland (Economics, 2007). Amaya joined the Socio-Economic Marine Research Unit (SEMRU) in June 2012. Amaya’s areas of interest include the effect of transport infrastructure on regional development, the assessment of the sustainability of transport systems and the analysis of transport demand and travel mode choice. She has experience in the development of socio-economic indicators for sustainability and accessibility in a transportation context. More recently, Amaya has become interested in the area of maritime economics, with particular interest in the valuation of maritime freight transport demand, inter-modal connectivity and accessibility to transport infrastructure and the promotion of Short Sea Shipping in Ireland. Her work has been published by a number of the top ranked journals in the fields of transportation, regional science and urban economic studies.
