Dr Garry Lohan H.Dip, PhD
Dr. Garry Lohan commenced a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in June 2012 focusing on decision making in Agile and Lean software development environments. He uses both qualitative and quantitative research methods to illustrate how software development teams make decisions and present data. His research interests include decision making by groups and individuals, group cohesion and stakeholder impact on decision outcomes. His work has been published in various leading journals and conferences such as the Scandinavian Journal of Information Systems, the International Conference in Information Systems (ICIS) and the Information Systems Development (ISD) conference.
His PhD focused on extending agile systems development by operationalising and applying the Beyond Budgeting performance management model to agile systems development environments. This research used a qualitative case study approach and he conducted two large scale case studies, one in Ireland and one in Norway. As part of his PhD he spent a number of months working and studying at SINTEF in Norway with qualitative researchers within the field of agile systems development.
Previous to joining NUI Galway, Garry graduated from the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology in 1999 with a Bachelors Degree in Manufacturing Technology. He worked for a number of years as a manufacturing engineer and project manager for companies such as FCI, Rynn Engineering and SilcotecEurope and has experience within the telecommunications, automotive, military and medical fields. He was awarded a Higher Diploma in Systems Analysis from NUI Galway in 2007 and a PhD from NUI Galway in 2012. He is a member of the Institution of Engineers Ireland (IEI) and the Association for Information Systems (AIS).
