Biography

Dr Conan O’Ceallaigh graduated with a First Class Honours in Civil Engineering from the National University of Ireland, Galway in 2012. Dr O’Ceallaigh returned to the National University of Ireland, Galway in 2013 to undertake a PhD entitled “An Investigation of the Viscoelastic and Mechano-sorptive Creep Behaviour of Reinforced Timber Elements”. Upon completion of his PhD thesis in 2016, Dr O’Ceallaigh took up a Post-Doctoral Research position in the College of Engineering and Informatics at NUI Galway investigating the use of Irish-grown timber in the manufacture of engineered wood products and their applications in modern timber buildings. 


Research Interests

Timber engineering: Structural testing and long-term performance engineered wood products 

Experimental testing of material properties and engineered wood products
Design provisions for structural timber elements: beams, CLT, connections.
Coupled numerical methods examining structural behaviour and moisture diffusion in timber. 

Structural engineering: Structures consisting of timber, steel, concrete and composite materials.

Computational mechanics: Numerical modelling; Nonlinear analysis
