Biography:

Jamie has worked in the research, consulting and construction industry for over 10 years.   Jamie received a first class honours degree in Civil, Structural & Environmental Engineering from Trinity College Dublin in 2000, being first in the class and receiving a gold medal. He completed a PhD in seismic engineering in 2004. However, Jamie's research activities spans a wide range of areas, including in the fields of structures, earthquake engineering, sustainable construction technologies, sustainable energy and life cycle assessment. He has authored and co-authored more than 50 publications in international peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. Jamie is a charted engineer and has worked as a consultant on both national and international projects. He has also worked as a site engineer and project manager in both Australia and Ireland. He collaborates with both industry and international research institutes on many research projects.  He is also one of the main contributors to the Joint FP6 Project Report `Seismic behaviour of steel and composite bracing members: Shake table and static tests - submitted to the European Commission to improve the European Seismic Design Code, Eurocode 8.  He has won awards for both his research and teaching activities. He is actively involved in the engineering professional body in Ireland, Engineers Ireland, and together with his students undertakes many outreach activities with the local, national and international communities.
