Biography

Research Interests

My main area of research is early modern manuscript letters as a textual and material form of interpersonal communication across gender and class divides. When working on servants' and women's letters, I combine approaches from English literature, linguistics (historical pragmatics), social and women's history, and manuscript studies.

Beyond this specialism, my wider research interests include country-house culture and writings, early modern women's devotional and theological  writings, Milton's works, sonnets as a genre, early modern dance and music (including practice-based research and public engagement), and research-based creative writing.
