Biography

Research Interests

Alison's interests lie in early modern Europe, particularly seventeenth-century France, and in the history of early modern Catholic culture and society. Her current writing focuses on the career of Vincent de Paul and the development of the Congregation of the Mission (Lazarists) within the Catholic reform movement of seventeenth-century France.  Publications forthcoming soon include The Frontiers of Mission: Perspectives on Early Modern Missionary Catholicism (ed. with Sean Smith) (Brill, 2016), and Vincent de Paul, the Lazarist Mission, and French Catholic Reform (Oxford University Press, 2017).
Alison would welcome enquiries from those interested in postgraduate research on seventeenth-century France, and/or the history of the Catholic church and Catholic religion and culture in early modern Europe.
