SFI Research Professorship Programme
NUI Galway is currently offering three Research Professorships to build capacity and enable growth in targeted areas of strategic importance to NUI Galway and of scientific and economic importance.

Candidate Profile
Successful candidates will be outstanding researchers in academia or industry, recognised as one of the world-leaders in their discipline, with a demonstrated capacity for strategic and dynamic leadership on an international stage. Applicants will be expected to:

  • Have senior authorship of a considerable volume of papers that have made a significant impact in their field (i.e. are highly cited).
  • Be a recipient of significant international awards and fellowships.
  • Be an invited plenary speaker at top-tier international conferences.
  • Have a successful track record in securing  significant independent funding from competitive sources and/or through private investment
  • Applicants from industry should demonstrate equivalent measures of esteem (e.g. serving on corporate boards, receipt of industry awards or fellowships). A successful track record in technology transfer, technology commercialisation and academic-industrial collaborations, where appropriate, is also highly desirable.

Funding Available
In addition to an attractive remuneration package; funding of up to €5M will be provided to successful candidates for a five-year programme of work through the SFI Targeted Research Professorship Programme.

Research Professor in Medical Devices
NUI Galway is seeking to recruit a Research Professor in the area of Medical Devices. The successful candidate will enhance translational capability within the medical device area with a focus on facilitating progression from discovery to delivery in collaboration with MedTech industry partners.

Research Professor in Innovative Energy Technologies
NUI Galway is seeking to recruit a Research Professor in the area of Innovative Energy Technologies. The successful candidate will be responsible for integrating existing enterprise and research strengths to drive development of next generation energy technologies to ensure energy security and sustainability.

Research Professor in Satellite Remote Sensing
NUI Galway is seeking to recruit a Research Professor in the area of Earth Observation with specific experience in satellite remote sensing programmes. The successful candidate will lead the integration of EO resources and capabilities and will work closely with the Ryan Institute at NUI Galway
