Biography

I have been Assistant Professor (SoTL) at the University of Galway since 2006. I hold a postgraduate masters of Education in English, and graduated with BA in English Philology at University of Valladolid, Spain and a  Ph.D. in Language Teaching and Learning later in 2013 with University of Valladolid, Spain. The University of Galway is also my alma mater as I graduated with an MA Spanish with a focus on translation. I completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher education in 2022 here.. 

My research runs along two main threads: Spanish language teaching and learning and Children's fiction in translation. 

I'm exploring existing and new venues to get Spanish language teachers working together and to increase student input both in the curricula and in the materials we use in class by founding and leading the Community of Practice ELE in Eirínn.  My 'Proyecto EstudiantELE' has been awarded the European Language Label award 2020. Research Interests

I'm passionate about Language Teaching and Learning and translation of Children's and audiovisual fiction. My Ph.D. dissertation focused on the use of classroom research tools for enhancement of the language classroom at university level. The case study I developed enabled student voices to lead and discuss current language teaching and learning approaches and provided the tools for a continuous assessment of teaching by students, more relevant that student feedback at the end of the module. 

On the other hand, I am also research active on Children Studies, mainly on translation of children identity and the treatment of taboo topics and implied readership in these texts and audiovisual materials.

I'm a creative researcher and at the moment, I'm working on creating open materials under creative commons licence to explore issues arising from student language biographies, creativity
in language teaching and learning as well as the development of plurilingual materials.
