Biography:

"Working in the field of Corporate Governance and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the current global climate is exciting.  Motivated to addressing the role of the underdog, my research aims focus on proposing a regulatory approach to the mostly self-regulated CSR agenda in order to advance the economies of small countries dependent on global capital."

Ciara began her law degree in 2002 graduating in 2005 with an LLB (Hons) from Queen’s University Belfast.  In 2006 she graduated with an LLM in Corporate Governance and Public Policy (QUB).  Arising from her LLM thesis, Ciara was accepted into the PhD programme at QUB, funded by a DEL scholarship.  Ciara successfully defended her thesis in 2009 entitled “Dependent States, Global Capital and the Capacity to Regulate: Why can’t small open countries like Ireland have robust Corporate Social Responsibility?”

Ciara joined the Law School at NUI Galway in August 2010 as a University Fellow.  In the academic year 2010-2011 she taught Tort Law to BA legal Science, BCLs, Bcorps, and LLBs.

Ciara has presented her research at a number of national and international conferences including Belfast, London and Finland and has been published in journals including peer reviewed publications.

Ciara is coordinator of the LLM in Public Law at NUI Galway and is involved in the day to day running of the programme.
