Biography

Dr. Lindsay Sullivan is a Lecturer in the Discipline of Children’s Studies.  She is the Programme Director for the MSc in Adolescent Health programme at NUI Galway, which will be launched in September 2021.  Lindsay is an International Affiliate Faculty Member at the Center for Injury Research and Policy at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, USA.  She is also a Certified Health Education Specialist®.  She received her BS in Psychology (2012) from Lafayette College (USA) and her MA (2013) and PhD (2018) in Health Promotion from NUI Galway.   Lindsay completed her postdoctoral training at the Center for Injury Research and Policy at Nationwide Children’s Hospital (USA).  She joined the Discipline of Children’s Studies in January 2020.  

Her research interests include sport-related concussion, childhood injury prevention and control, and mental health promotion.  Dr. Sullivan is also interested in the development, implementation, and evaluation of health behaviour change interventions that aim to prevent injury and improve the health and well-being of children and adolescents.

Research Interests

Dr. Sullivan's research programme focuses primarily on sport injury research, with a particular focus on sport-related concussion in children and adolescents.  Specifically, her research centers on concussion education, prevention, management, and behaviour change among children and adolescents. Secondly, her research focuses on the development, implementation, and evaluation of health promotion programmes, with particular interest in the development of theory-based injury prevention programmes.  Her research is framed within the social ecological model, and consequently, she works across individual, interpersonal, community, and policy levels.  Furthermore, as a mixed methods researcher, she uses both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies in her research.

Teaching Interests

Lindsay is the Programme Director of the MSc in Adolescent Health programme.  She also teaches on the Bachelor of Arts in Children's Studies programme, an interdisciplinary programme designed to equip students with a theoretical and practical understanding of the lives of children and youth.  Specifically, she is the module coordinator for Children in Social Contexts and Adolescents in Ireland: Healthy and Risky Behaviours. Lindsay also oversees third year students on work placement.
