Biography:

B.Sc. (Mathematical Science) 1978 University College Dublin; M.Sc. (Mathematical Science) 1979 University College Dublin and Ph.D. (Theoretical Physics) 1984 University of Cambridge. I spent four years at Trinity College Dublin as a post-doctoral fellow, one year at Dublin City University as a contract lecturer and two years as a research scholar at the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies. I joined the Department of Mathematical Physics in 1990 as a college lecturer and became a senior lecturer in 1999.

Research Interests

I have research interests in theoretical physics (quantum field theory and conformal field theory) and pure mathematics (vertex operator algebras, the Monster group and modular groups). Most recently I have been working on genus two and higher conformal field theory and vertex operator algebras in collaboration with Geoff Mason of UC Santa Cruz and Alexander Zuevsky at NUI Galway. I am also interested in exceptional vertex operator algebras and Lie algebras.
