Biography:

Liam qualified from Trinity College Dublin in 1995 and, after completing General Practice training in the Scottish highlands, he returned to Galway where he became Senior Registrar in General Practice under the auspices of the Irish College of General Practitioners. In November, 2004 he was appointed Lecturer in Primary Care in the Department of General Practice at NUI, Galway and is currently pursuing an MD on the association between renal dysfunction and morbidity and mortality in a cohort of patients in the community with established cardiovascular disease. His other research interests include out of hours care particularly in rural areas and innovations in medical education and he is responsible for minor surgical skills training at the Irish College of General Practitioners. Liam works as a GP principal in a single-handed practice in Ballyvaughan, Co Clare and also as an assistant director on the Western General Practice Training Programme.
