Biography:
Dr. Mary Byrne is a half-time Lecturer in Primary Care at the Discipline of General Practice and Primary Care at NUI Galway, where she co-ordinates inter-disciplinary postgraduate education programmes in Clinical Education and Clinical Primary Care. She holds a PhD and a Masters in Health Promotion, a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching & Learning in Higher Education, and a BA in Psychology and Music. For her doctoral research she developed and evaluated a school-based programme promoting positive mental and emotional health for 15-18 year olds. During this time she was a member of the inaugural Advisory Board for INTERCAMHS, the International Alliance for Child and Adolescent Mental Health in Schools. Following this she was Project Manager of the SPHERE study, a randomised controlled trial of an intervention to improve secondary prevention of heart disease in general practice. Her current research interest lies in the transfer of postgraduate learning into the primary care workplace. |
