Biography

Claire qualified as a general nurse in N. Ireland and moved to London to gain experience as a staff nurse. She pursued a traditional route through the clinical hierarchy up to clinical nurse manager level and then moved into practice development and education. Following a number of posts as a lecturer practitioner she moved into an academic post and has since remained. Claire’s clinical, research and academic expertise lies in the area of gerontological nursing and she is currently undertaking a PhD in elder abuse. Claire is programme coordinator for the BNS Nursing (General) programme and she teaches across all years of the undergraduate BSc programme and several postgraduate programmes.



Research Interests

Currently undertaking PhD studies. Title The Practices of Primary Health Care Professionals in Relation to Recognising and Responding to Elder Abuse: An Explanatory Sequential Mixed Methods Study. The aim of this study is to gain an in-depth understanding of the practices of front line key primary health care professionals in relation to elder abuse with particular reference to how they recognise and respond to elder abuse in their practice.
