Biography

Dr. Louise Murphy BSc (Hons), PhD, PG Dip in Nursing Education, RPN , RNT is a lecturer in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, NUI Galway. She is also a Registered Psychiatric Nurse and Registered Nurse Tutor with twelve years clinical experience in a variety of mental health settings, including community and acute services. Louise teaches across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate nursing programmes and supervises students at undergraduate and Masters level. She has specific expertise in mixed methods research and quantitative research methodologies. She has collaborated on a range of research projects, ranging from research into breast cancer through to dementia care and innovative teaching strategies utilising a wide range of methodological approaches. Her main research interests are in the areas of psychosocial interventions, psycho-oncology, breast cancer, education, recovery, wellness and recovery action planning, and mental health. She is currently educational working group lead for QUESTS.

Research Interests

My main areas of research interests come under my methodological interests and my topic area of interest. My methodological interests include mixed methodologies incorporating both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis. My topic areas of interest include: mental health nursing and nursing education, innovative strategies in nursing education, psychosocial interventions, cancer fatigue and cancer survivorship. My main areas of interest specifically in relation to mental health research include: psychosocial interventions, recovery, wellness and recovery action planning, mental health nurses educational needs and the psychological aspects of cancer survival.
