Biography

Dr Siobhán O'Connor is a Lecturer in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at the National University of Ireland Galway and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Western University, Canada. She has a multidisciplinary background in both nursing and information systems, completing her PhD in health informatics. She is a Registered General Nurse with the Irish Nursing and Midwifery Board and is a member of Sigma Nursing (Phi Mu chapter). Her teaching and research focus on the design, implementation, and use of technology in healthcare, with a particular interest in software, hardware, and computing systems that can support patient self-management. She also undertakes pedadogical research exploring digital, online, or virtual forms of learning to educate nursing students and nurse practitioners in university and clinical settings. Prior to joining NUI Galway, Dr O'Connor worked as a lecturer for several years in the United Kingdom, at the University of Edinburgh and the University of Manchester.

She has received a number of grants for digital health / eHealth research, as a Principal Investigator, co-PI, and co-investigator, from a variety of national and international funders. Dr O'Connor has published over 40 peer reviewed scientific articles including empirical studies, systematic and literature reviews, discussion and editorial pieces, and a book chapter, along with a number of blogs, newspaper and magazine articles. She is also a STEM Ambassador and a member of Women in Technology and Science Ireland, promoting science and technology careers to young people. Dr O'Connor supervises Masters and PhD students across a range of topics in health informatics from electronic health records and electronic prescribing, to telehealth or telecare, mobile health or health apps, wearable or assistive devices, robotics, and virtual and augmented reality. Research Interests

Dr O'Connor's research focuses on the design, implementation, and use of technology in healthcare, with a particular interest in software, hardware, and computing systems that can support patient self-management. She also undertakes pedadogical research exploring digital, online, or virtual forms of learning to educate nursing students and nurse practitioners in university and clinical settings. Siobhán  supervises Masters and PhD students interested in a range of topics in health informatics from electronic health records and electronic prescribing, to telehealth or telecare, mobile health or health apps, wearable or assistive devices, robotics, and virtual and augmented reality.
