Biography:

Conchúr Ó Giollagáin is affiliated to the School of Political Science and Sociology in the National University of Ireland Galway. His teaching and research interests include language planning, sociolinguistics and linguistic anthropology. Previously, he was the Head of the Language Planning Unit in Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge and he contributes to the Acadamh’s MA sa Léann Teanga. He co-authored the government-commissioned Gaeltacht survey Comprehensive Linguistic Study of the Use of Irish in the Gaeltacht (2007).  Conchúr received his PhD in Modern Irish from UCD and he formerly lectured in the Department of Irish in St. Patrick’s College, Dublin City University, and in the Department of Celtic Studies in the Catholic University of Lublin, Poland. The National Institute for Regional and Spatial Analysis, National University of Ireland, Maynooth, awarded him a post-doctoral fellowship to examine aspects of the language dynamics and linguistic anthropology of the Gaeltacht.

Is comhúdar é ar an tionscnamh taighde sochtheangeolaíochta a choimisiúnaigh an Roinn Gnóthaí Pobail, Tuaithe agus Gaeltachta: Staidéar Cuimsitheach Teangeolaíoch ar Úsáid na Gaeilge sa Ghaeltacht (2007). Shaothraigh Conchúr a dhochtúirteacht sa Nua-Ghaeilge i gColáiste na hOllscoile, Baile Átha Cliath. Bhíodh sé ina léachtóir i Roinn na Gaeilge i gColáiste Phádraig, Ollscoil Chathair Bhaile Átha Cliath agus roimhe sin i Roinn na Ceiltise in Ollscoil Chaitliceach Lublin, an Pholainn. Bhronn an Institiúid Náisiúnta um Anailís Réigiúnach agus Spásúil comhaltacht iardhochtúireachta air le staidéar a dhéanamh ar ghnéithe éagsúla de dhinimic teanga agus d’antraipeolaíocht teangeolaíochta na Gaeltachta.
