UNDERGRADUATE EDUCATION (MD415)
The Department of Paediatrics is located in Room 219, Clinical Science Institute. Formal paediatric teaching occurs in year 5 of the current medical curriculum. The 8 week programme aims to introduce students to the principles of paediatrics, paediatric clinical skills and a child-centred approach to care and management of the sick child. It also aims to equip them with a desire for and skills to be a life-long medical learner.
The programmes teaching methods include peer-directed learning such as student case presentations and problem based learning seminars. Small-group clinical teaching such as bed-side tutorials are an important component. The 2 week external residency in an affiliated hospital enhances clinical exposure and teaching. Formal lecturers are delivered at the commencement of the year.
Summative assessment includes continuous assessment; clinical examination and written examination, with formative assessment provided on week 8 of the student elective.
