Online Pension Employee Self Service

Pension records are now available to all pension scheme members including SPS members (new to Public Sector from 1 Jan 2013) through the Employee Self Service (ESS) system. The addition of this service further enhances the services already available via ESS which include Online Payslips, eRecruitment and Core Time.  

Pensionable staff members no longer receive printed annual pension statements.  Hard copy pension statements will continue to be issued from the Pensions Office for actual retirements, Family Law cases and final statements on leaving the University of Galway.

The online pension record will provide you with:

  • Freedom of access to view your pensionable salary and pensionable service which includes transfers in from previous pension schemes and notional service purchase
  • A snap shot of your estimated retirement benefits (Model & JPS Scheme) and accrued retirement benefits (SPS Scheme)
  • Pensions Calculator*
  • Allow you to access your pension information 24 hours a day
  • Help make efficiencies in processing and printing, reducing our carbon footprint
  • Make checking your pension details more flexible
  • Enable us to provide pension details more securely

*Model & JPS Pension Scheme:The Pensions Calculator allows you to model “what if” scenarios by selecting different retirement options, ages at retirement, changing work patterns or your predicted salary at retirement.  These selections will feed into calculations of your pension, retirement gratuity and benefits payable to your dependants. 

*SPS Pension Scheme: A Single Scheme Estimator Tool is now live in the Member’s area of the Single Scheme website.  Estimates provided by the tool are not a guarantee of the benefits payable but should help Scheme members with financial planning.

There are three Defined Benefits Schemes in operation at the University of Galway:

1.      National University of Ireland, Galway (Closed) Pension Scheme 2010 (Joint Pension Scheme) – this applies to staff that commenced employment at the University of  Galway on or before 31 Dec 2004.

2.      National University of Ireland, Galway, Pension Scheme 2005 (Model Scheme) – this applies to staff that commenced employment at the University of  Galway on or after 1 January 2005 and before 31 December 2012. It also applies to staff members transferring from another public body who were members of an existing public body pension scheme (i.e. other than the SPS) provided the break between employments is less than 26 weeks.

3.      Single Public Service Scheme (SPS - Commonly referred to as Career Average Scheme) - this applies to staff that commenced employment for the first time in the public sector on or after 1 January 2013.
