Resources and Links
The resources on this site are organised into five main categories as follows:
- Bioethics Organisations
- Bioethics Networks & Blogs
- Bioethical Issues
- Resources in Professional Ethics
- Bioethics Journals, Websites and Newsletters
The COBRA Bioethics Organisations page provides links to important organisations that are involved in bioethical research and consultation. Two types of organisations can be distinguished: national ethics councils that advise their government with regard to bioethical policy and ethics centres that are either funded independently or affiliated to other institutions that may have different functions and responsibilities. The mission of non-national bioethics centres may include the advancement of bioethical research, the delivery of bioethics consultations, training or providing public information.
This page also contains links to ethics & law organisations, including online law databases and university affiliated centres of ethics and law research.
Here you will find links to webpages with relevant information on a broad range of specific ethical issues developed by COBRA, including e.g. stem cell research, abortion, euthanasia and reproductive technologies. There will also be links to other on-line resources on these issues. The information that is available on these external websites will vary from balanced overviews to arguments for specific policy positions. These websites do not necessarily reflect the views or positions of COBRA.
COBRA Issue Guides offer a fast way of getting an overview of important ethical issues in the field. They outline important problems and mention some relevant literature that might help you to get started in thinking about these issues. They should be supplemented by use of other resources on the website. This page also contains our COBRA Guides to (bio)ethical theory, principles and concepts.
The Bioethics Publications page provides links to important bioethics journals, websites and newsletters. Journals are the primary vehicle of academic reflection in bioethics. Some of the journals can only be accessed if your academic institution has subscribed to them; other provide access to some material for free and others don’t have any access restrictions.
You can also find a variety of dedicated bioethics news webpages and news services that are free for the public. A further relevant source of information on bioethical issues are national newspapers. Many of these have dedicated “health”, “science” or “technology” sections that often report on important bioethical issues.
