Joseph Mahon
BA, MA (NUI)
Joseph Mahon was born in Galway, and obtained his B.A and M.A. degrees at the National University of Ireland, Galway. He was made a Junior Teaching Fellow at what was then University College Galway in 1968, and joined the department of Philosophy in 1969.

Mr. Mahon teaches the following courses:

Research and Publications
Mahon's M.A. dissertation was on the theory of knowledge in Marxist philosophy. His research and publications have concentrated on topics in Marxism, existentialism, feminism, applied ethics and cultural policy. In addition to journal articles, critical notices and reviews, he has published three sole-authored books: An Introduction to Practical Ethics (Turoe Press, 1984); Existentialism, Feminism and Simone de Beauvoir (Macmillan, 1997; St. Martin's Press 1997); and Simone de Beauvoir and her Catholicism (Arlen House, 2002). He is currently completing a book on Culture and the State.
