Tyndall Lecture 2012 - The big bang - is it true?

The Tyndall Lecture for Schools will take place on Wednesday, 1st February12pm in the Kirwan Theatre, Arts/Science Building, NUI Galway. Tours of the School of Physics will also take place on this day.

One of the best known theories of modern physics, the big bang model of the origin of the universe has important implications for philosophy, religion and society. But is it true? Dr Cormac O'Raifeartaigh (Lecturer in Physics, Waterford Institute of Technology) will explore the theory and evidence supporting the big bang model and the limitations of the model will be explained in an engaging and interactive presentation. Recent discoveries that have revolutionized our view of the universe will also be discussed.

Special Symposium on the use of Adaptive Optics

Professor Chris Dainty introduced a special symposium on the use of adaptive optics to produce sharper images in Astronomy, Microscopy and the human retina at the Annual American Association for the Advancement of Science meeting held in Washington D.C recently.
