Dr. Leo Quinlan
Dr Quinlan graduated in 1994 with a
B.Sc. (Hons.) in Biochemistry from NUI Galway following which he undertook pursued
a Ph.D. (1994-1998) characterizing Inositol signalling pathways in mouse embryonic stem cell self-renewal. In 1998 he joined the cellular physiology research unit at University college Cork focusing on the non-genomic signalling pathways in reproductive tissue and ion channel modulation. In September 1999, Dr Quinlan was appointed Lecturer in
Physiology at NUI Galway.
Teaching
I am currently course coordinator for 4th year Physiology (BSc.
Science and Biomedical Science) and a number of modules in the undergraduate medical programme
Delivers lectures and practicals
primarily in the areas of electrophysiology, cellular physiology and cell signalling to
undergraduate Science, Medical, Nursing and Engineering students.
RESEARCH INTERESTS:

- Neuronal noise (neuro-modulation, sensory and motor stimulation / dampening)
- Biomaterials
- Electrophysiology (Ussing chambers, patch clamp, brain slice)
- Cell signalling (inositol, purinoceptors)
