Senior Podiatrist (Diabetes)

I graduated with a BSc (Hons) Degree in Podiatry in 2015 from NUI Galway. Since then I have worked in university college hospitals in Tipperary, Castlebar and Galway. Most of my work since graduating has involved managing diabetic foot disease in the acute setting along with other members of the multi-disciplinary team. I find this type of work challenging due to the complexity of diabetic foot pathology but also highly rewarding.

In addition to my undergraduate podiatry degree I have completed a post graduate certificate in the Management of the Diabetic Foot in NUIG and in 2020 I will be due to have completed an MSc programme  in “Preservation of the Lower Limb in Diabetes”, based in the University of Ulster. The area of investigation for my thesis is the comparison of superficial wound swabs and bone samples obtained in a high risk foot clinic. Continuous professional development is crucial in modern-day podiatric practice and post-graduate education has helped me hugely in my career so far. My post-graduate experience has also been beneficial in my role as clinical tutor in the podiatry department in Merlin Park Hospital.

I hope to continue to work in the area of diabetic foot disease and upskill whenever the opportunities arise.
