Students take a broad range of graduate level courses in areas such as Group Theory, Functional Analysis, Algebraic Topology, Numerical Analysis, Discrete Mathematics, Probability, and Statistics. Candidates may be expected to work with computational mathematical and statistical packages. In addition to courses taken, each student prepares a minor dissertation, working under the supervision of a member of staff. Candidates may be expected to work with computational mathematical or statistical packages.
The aim of the programme is to introduce the students to areas of current research interest in mathematical science through the minor dissertation, training in research techniques is provided and the student is introduced to a topic of current research interest.
90 ECTS.
E.U. students: €6,540
Non-E.U. students: €12,500*
*Subject to ratification
Please note: fees are correct at the time of online publication, but are subject to change (E&EO); non-E.U. fees must be paid in full prior to registration.
Applications to this programme are made online via The Postgraduate Applications Centre (PAC). Relevant PAC application code above right.
Candidates for this programme must have achieved a second class honours degree or better in mathematics or applied mathematics at degree level or the equivalent as determined by the Departments.
Selection is based on the candidate’s academic record at undergraduate level and their aptitude for the course.
All courses are 18 ECTS and are examined in August. The dissertation will be submitted at a date prior to the written examinations.
There is a strong demand for graduates with mathematical skills in financial institutions, business firms, and semi-state bodies, as well as ongoing research opportunities.
