Capacitive sensor for detecting cough
Dr. Maeve Duffy,
Migle Makelyte
A new sensor for detecting cough when placed on a person’s chest is to be developed. The sensor will replace a piezoelectric based device currently used in a cough monitor from Vitalograph, and will be based on the capacitive effect. The design of a stand-alone sensor that will contact directly with a person’s chest is proposed, whereby the size and shape of the sensor will be optimised to detect signals produced during coughing over other sounds.
Start date: 1st of October 2007. This project is completed.
