Entry requirements

Applicants:

• Should ideally have experience in a training or educational role
• Must be in position to undertake assignments and work-based projects relating to practical aspects of training or education
• May apply for exemptions/credits through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process
  

Participants are expected to have:

• Access to the internet
• Computer literacy

NFQ Level: 7	Award: Certificate in Training and Education
ECTS weighting: 45 ECTS	Mode of study: Part-time, distance and blended learning programme delivered through self-study texts, regional workshops and online activities
Next start date: September 2012	Duration: 1 academic year (September - April)

Course aims and outcomes

The programme focuses on developing the knowledge, skills and competence of those in training roles. On successful completion of the programme, participants will be able to:

• Select appropriate pedagogical approaches to facilitate adult learning;
• Apply a systematic approach to identifying training needs, designing course content, selecting delivery methods and evaluating training outcomes;
• Apply helping strategies to assist individual adult learners manage their learning
• Manage group development and group dynamics;
• Develop assessment strategies that are valid, reliable, fair and practical;
• Develop an individual teaching and learning portfolio relevant to trainer competences.

Course structure

Students will have to attend 1-day and 2-day workshops throughout the academic year (see table below). This usually amounts to 8 days in total. There is also an Orientation Day which takes place at the beginning of the academic year in NUI Galway.

assessment and study progression

Assessment is based on a combination of written assignments, written examinations, online contributions and an end-of-year project.

Successful participants may progress to the Diploma in Arts (Training and Education) - Year 2.
