Course aims and outcomes
The programme focuses on advancing the knowledge, skills and competence of those in training roles. On successful completion of the programme, participants will be able to:
- Develop course aims, learning outcomes and content;
- Apply the principles of good facilitation to establish a motivating learning environment;
- Select optimum pedagogical approaches for the adult learner;
- Implement a strategy of managing and motivating people in training strategy contexts;
- Plan community development projects, and evaluate how such projects build capacity in the economic, cultural, political and social life of a community;
- Explain the key skills of basic research in the social sciences;
- Apply the principles and skills of research planning and design to the implementation a work-based research project.
Course structure
Students will have to attend 1-day and 2-day workshops throughout the academic year (see table below). This usually amounts to 9 days in total.

Assessment is based on a combination of written assignments, written examinations, online contributions and an end-of-year project.
Successful participants may progress to the
Bachelor of Arts (Training and Education) - Years 3 & 4.
