Facilities for palaeoecological research include the following:

- Coring equipment. An Usinger piston corer that is capable of coring to depths of 40 m has recently been purchased. A platform suitable for lake coring with an Usinger corer is also available.

- Dedicated pollen preparation laboratory and a comprehensive pollen reference collection.
- High quality Leitz / Leica research microscopes. These include light microscopes with phase contrast and stereo microscopes; also a metallurgical microscope specifically for charcoal analysis.
- Photographic facilities for photographic (digital) documentation of cores and micro- and macrofossils.
- Easy access to a suite of new state-of-the-art microscopes and microprobe facilities in the
National Centre for Biomedical Engineering Science.
- Comprehensive software for pollen data analysis and presentation. This includes the routine generation of high quality pollen diagrams in colour.
- Extensive palaeoecological literature collection (including specialist papers on Ireland, Great Britain and continental Europe). Also a substantial literature collection on cognate areas such as archaeology, geography and ecology.
- Last but not least, personnel with wide experience in palaeoecological research relating to Late-glacial and Holocene environments in Ireland and Europe generally.
