The School of Psychology offers both PhD and MLitt degrees, completed primarily on the basis of a research thesis, although taught elements may be required. The School offers supervision in a wide range of research areas. Admission to a research degree is at the discretion of the potential supervisor and of the Director of Research, and is based on a proposal from the applicant folowing discussion with the member of staff whose academic area of interest is most appropriate. The School of Psychology launched the MSc in Applied Behaviour Analysis in September 2006. This is a taught programme that provides professional training in Applied Behaviour Analysis. The Doctor of Psychological Science (DPsychSc) in Clinical Psychology is a taught doctoral programme that provides professional training in clinical psychology. The programme involves full-time study for three calendar years, and is provided in partnership with clinical psychology services in the Health Services Executive and other health service agencies.
