SUMS
Welcome to SUMS - the mathematics drop-in support centre at NUI Galway
SUMS is a FREE service providing informal mathematics support to 1st and 2nd year students across all colleges and courses as well as to students engaged in Access/Foundation courses.
SUMS is located on the ground floor in Aras de Brún, see here for a map. Here you can receive extra mathematics or statistics tuition during our drop-in service hours (see timetable below). You can attend during these hours to use SUMS as a study space – where you can work at your own pace with a tutor available if you have any questions. Outside of these hours, SUMS is available for you to study on your own or with class mates.
The SUMS room is available all day for students at any level as a study space.
SUMS Drop-In Service
The SUMS Drop-In-Service opens for 12 weeks each semester, with reduced hours in Weeks 1 - 2. You can find more information including tutors on duty etc. on the timetable below.
- No booking is required – just walk in and seek help whenever the SUMS drop-in service is open.
- Please prepare for your visit as much as possible. Bring along all relevant course materials and try to identify a specific area of difficulty.
- If you are having difficulties in general with mathematics or statistics, you should attend SUMS regularly and as early in the academic year as possible.
SUMS for Access/Foundation
Friday afternoons are specially dedicated to students taking Access/Foundation courses and Mature Students. If you are one of these students you are of course free to attend any of our opening days but please be aware that the centre can be extremely busy and that you will receive more time with a tutor on Friday afternoons.
You are very welcome to visit SUMS! The room is available to study at any time! Call in, bring your friends if you like. We are looking forward to your visit.
