Q2 When can I register online?

Online registration will open on August 21st 2012. From this date you can register online without paying your fees immediately as you will have the ’pay now’ or ’pay later’ option available to you.

Q3 I have registered but my modules have not appeared on Blackboard yet. What should I do?

If you registered for modules you must wait at least 24 hours for your modules to appear on Blackboard. If they are still not visible please check the following (1) that you are correctly registered for the academic year, and (2) that your lecturer is subscribing to Blackboard. If you are correctly registered and your lecturer is subscribing to Blackboard and the problem persists please contact blackboard

Q4 I registered my modules online but none of them are visible when I log in to My Campus.

If you cannot see any of your modules e-mail reghelp

Q5 If I register my modules now will I be able to change them or drop a module?

It depends on what course you are doing. If you want to change a module after the registration deadline you will more than likely need permission from the relevant department.

Arts students must take 60 credits for the year. They are not allowed go above or below this.

Commerce students must take 60 credits for the year. They are not allowed go above or below this. There is an exception to this; 3BC1 students who have registered for at least 25 Law Credits (LW) can register for a maximum of 65 credits with the permission of the School of Business & Economics.

Corporate and Civil law students must register for 60 credits but can take up to a maximum of 70 credits if they wish.

LL.B
3BL1: Students must register for 66 credits but can take up to a maximum of 78 credits.
2BL1: 54 credits (minimum)
2BL2: 36 credits (minimum)
3BL2: 42 credits (minimum)

4th year Engineering students (4BE1) must register for 60 credits but can go up to a maximum of 63 credits with permission from the Head of Department.

No semester 1 module can be deleted in January. No year long module can be added in January. This applies to all students.

Q6 Can I take extra credits in semester 2 if I don’t do well in semester 1 exams?

It depends on the course you are doing. Most courses do not allow students to go above 60 credits for the year.

Exception: 3BL1 can take up to a maximum of 78 credits for the year.

Q7 I registered for the wrong module online by accident. Can I change it?

You can change it online before the deadline 21st September 2012 (30th September for 1st Year UG students from the College of Arts, Social Sciences & Celtic Studies). There will also be a 'Change of Mind' option available to each College. Please click here for full dates in this regard.

If you want to change it after the deadline you will need written permission from the relevant department. Then you must call to the Registration desks, 1st floor, Áras Uí Chathail.

Q8 What does my DOMICILE mean?

Domicile refers to your country of permanent address prior to entry to the programme of study.

Q9 I would like to update my home address but I am not allowed to do so on My Campus.

Q10 How can I check if I have registered correctly?

Once you register your modules on My Campus and click ’Finish’ your modules are registered. You should then print a copy for your own records.

Q11 There are no optional modules in my course. Do I need to register?

You still need to register as a student of the University at the beginning of the academic year even if your course is comprised entirely of core subjects.

Q12 I am studying abroad this year. Do I need to register modules?

You must register as a student at the beginning of the academic year. BA students can select their 2 modules e.g. History and Spanish

Q13 I am a repeat student. Can I register my modules online?

No, repeat students must complete their registration form that will be sent out in the post in mid september and then call to level 1, Áras Uí Chathail to register their modules from the 24th September 2012.

Q14 Can I register for my English seminar/ Geography seminar/ History seminar/ Sociology and Politics seminar online?

Seminars in English (2nd and 3rd yr) and options in Sociology and Politics (3rd and 4th yr) will be put up automatically for students on receipt of this information from the relevant disciplines.

Geography (2nd and final year) and History (2nd and final year) options/colloquias are on a quota system this year. When the quota has been filled for a module this

icon will appear against it. This means the module is fully subscribed and you must try to register for your next choice and so on until you are sucessfully registered for an option.

Q15 Can I drop a module that I was registered for in semester 1 in the second semester?

No, you cannot drop a semester 1 module in January

Q16 I cannot see the ’Build Curriculum’ link when I log on to My Campus

Q17 OA & EM – Am I allowed to take more than 30 credits per semester?

OA- You can take more than 30 credits as long as you satisfy the requirements of your home university. However, it is advised that you stay as close to 30 credits as possible.

EM- You must consult with your Erasmus coordinator to see how many credits you can take.

Q18 OA & EM - Am I allowed to take less than 30 credits per semester?

OA- You can take less than 30 credits so long as you satisfy the requirements of your home university.

Q19 OA & EM – When will I have access to Blackboard?

OA – No

Q21 OA & EM - How do I access my NUIG e-mail account?

Log on to http://www.nuigalway.ie/ and click on the link for Student Mail. Follow the instructions to access your NUIG e-mail account.

Q22 OA & EM - Can I have a statement with my term address so that I can open a bank account?

Yes, you can print a registration statement at anytime by logging in to My Campus using your User ID (ID Number) and password.
