Irish election raises questions for stem cell research

The Fianna Fail party, in power in Ireland since 1997, had supported science well enough over the last decade or so to allow the small country to dramatically raise its international profile. This year it even scraped into the top twenty science-producing countries in terms of citations per research paper.

Best Abstract award at the International Cartilage Repair Society Meeting

Sinead D’Arcy MSc, a post-graduate student in the Regenerative Medicine Institute (REMEDI) at NUI Galway, received the Best Abstract award at the International Cartilage Repair Society Meeting held in Barcelona from 25-29 Sept 2010.

Human mesenchymal stem cells in action!

These videos show an amazing, dynamic view of the life of human MSCs. The cells were isolated from adult bone marrow and cultured by REMEDI PhD student Annette Enright. The videos were captured over a 24 hour period.

EuroStemCell connects European citizens with stem cell research. An ambitious 4-year project launched in March 2010 unites more than 90 European stem cell and regenerative medicine research laboratories in a coordinated effort to engage with the public about their science.

The 2010 Debating Science Issues All-Ireland Final occurred on April 15 at the Science Gallery at Trinity College Dublin. The four provinces of Ireland were represented by Our Lady & St. Patrick's College, Belfast, Co. Antrim, St. Attracta's Community School, Tubbercurry, Co. Sligo, Clonakilty Community School, Co. Cork, and St. Mary's College, Rathmines, Co. Dublin.
