Effect of hypoxia on stromal cell ECM to maintain stemness

Researcher in

Research Project Area:

I’m studying if extracellular matrix (ECM) produced from MS5 (mouse stromal cell line) in Hypoxia will maintain MS5 stemness phenotype for longer than ECM prepared in Normoxia.

Positions Held:

April 2012 to December 2012

Development of a flow cytometry-based potency assay for the immunomodulatory properties of human Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stromal Cells, reliable, rapid, quantifiable assays to determine the effects of hBM MSC on the intracellular production of TNF-α and IL-12 by LPS-stimulated monocytes, and IFN-γ in stimulated T cells. This project is funded by a joint Science Foundation Ireland/Enterprise Ireland-funded TIDA (Technology and Innovation Development Award) Feasibility Study 2011. With Professor Rhodri Ceredig from Immunology & Transplant Biology Group, Regenerative Medicine Institute (REMEDI), National Centre for Biomedical Engineering Science (NCBES), National University of Ireland (NUI), in Galway, Ireland.

December 2010 to March 2012

Phenotypic characterization of mesenchymal stem cells, cell cultures, study of immunoregulator and immunosuppressive capacity of MSC from various sources (AT MSC, BM MSC, UCM MSC), in the framework of “ISOCORD” project, led by Crioestaminal S.A.. Analysis of samples by flow cytometry (4 and 8 colors) and Cell Sorting in the framework of various projects at the lab. With Dr. Artur Paiva from Flow Cytometry Laboratory in the Center of Histocompatibility of Coimbra, in Coimbra, Portugal.

August 2010 to October 2010

Database development and results analysis obtained in a epidemiological study about surveillance of Malaria, the porject taked place in Mozambique since 2007. Cooperative project between Médicos do Mundo and Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. With Dr. Ana Rita Chico from Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Avenida do Trabalho, Chókèw, in Mozambique and Dr. Jorge Cabral from Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, in Lisbon, Portugal.

January 2010 to July 2010 - November 2010 to February 2012

Blood sample analysis by flow cytometry (4 and 8 colors) in the project "HCV-specific immune response in HCV/HIV-1 coinfected patients during antiviral therapy, associated CD8 T cells and dendritic cells response to the outcome of therapy". With Dr. Cristina Luxo from Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Coimbra; and Dr. Artur Paiva from Flow Cytometry Laboratory in the Center of Histocompatibility of Coimbra, in Coimbra, Portugal.
